Born in Hannover/Westphalia, Matchbox unsurprisingly had the preference for clubbing in cities such as Berlin, Frankfurt, Kassel or Hamburg from 1993 on. Affected by this early Rave-experience there was no other way for him than to dedicate his life to spinning records and become a DJ himself. From 1997 on, he fanatically started buying records which almost ruined his life. The urge to present music to other people has not slowed down until today. Even now, his friends are forced to listen to his new acquisitions and his latest DJ-Sets. In1998, he started his own broadcast “Seitensprung” for a local radio station to reach a wider audience with his music. Thus, he got first gigs in various bars and clubs. After relocating to Berlin in 2000, he co-founded a new broadcast called “Digital Gadget” for a college radio station. Partially due to the well-known guest DJ appearances and interview partners (Daniel Miller, Jeff Mills, Blake Baxter, Baby Ford, Monolake, LFO and Zip, to name a few) gigs in various Berlin locations followed. At that time, he started working for various small record stores which gave him the perfect opportunity to upgrade his ever-growing record collection. In late 2003, he began working in Rotation record store and from start on, he was the responsible person for “DJ-affairs”. In his position as buying agent he could help establish a brand name: only two years later, Rotation had become one of Berlin..s top record stores, well-known beyond the cities boundaries. Naturally, working at Rotation brought new acquaintances and friendships to club owners and fellow DJs which resulted in bookings for more established clubs. It was in early 2004 when he first met M.a.n.d.y. No two months later, he was playing Cookies Bar and opening for them at their monthly residency in Weekend club. Clubs like Watergate, Bar 25, Tresor, Picknick, Cookies,103, Panoramabar, Klub der Visionäre, Badeschiff, Wmf, Weekend (Resident with Mandy until 2006) were soon to follow, not to mention semi-official Parties, with DJ T, Ata, Blake Baxter, Dinky, Mathew Jonson, Luciano, MyMy, Matt John, Andomat 3000, Jay Haze and the likes. Still longing for the good old days, he is never satisfied with an ordinary DJ-Set and thus demands everything from himself and the crowd. That is why he prefera sets in the small hoursa, or as he puts it: “you have the freedom to experiment, then, and people are willing…” That is why he always tries to surprise the audience and does not want to come up with recent top 10 tunes you can hear everywhere. 2006 Matchbox teams up with the Berlin composer Ilja Coric to work on his own Productions. 2006 He starts working for the Label “Get Physical Music” in the A&R Section 2007 Matchbox starts writing for the well known German Magazine “Groove” 2008 His first Ep “You can get Sonar” is released on the “Get Physical Music”- Sublabel “Kindisch” (Kindisch 14) and is licensed to the famous Fabric Compilation, mixed by M.a.n.d.y (Fabric 38) 2008 His Remix for the Booka Shade Single “Charlotte” is released on Get Physical Music (Physical Music 90) 2008 In June Matchbox supports the Booka Shade Concert in Berlin.
